Yes, Barry's Tea has caffeine: every Barry's black tea blend is a fully caffeinated black tea, and only Barry's Decaf, which Barry's says contains less than 0.2% caffeine, is a low-caffeine option. Barry's does not publish a milligram figure for its blends, so the best guide is the typical range for a cup of black tea: USDA FoodData Central lists brewed black tea at about 47 mg per 8 oz cup, roughly half a cup of coffee.
On strength, Barry's describes Master Blend as its "richer, full bodied" blend, made from ten tea gardens, so it is the one to pick if you want the strongest-tasting Barry's. Gold Blend is the Rwanda, Kenya, and Assam blend Barry's calls Ireland's favourite. Below: the caffeine picture, a blend-by-blend table, and Gold vs Master Blend. The short version.
- Does Barry's Tea have caffeine? Yes. All Barry's black tea blends are caffeinated.

- Strongest Barry's: Master Blend, by Barry's own description ("richer, full bodied"). Strength here means body and flavor; Barry's does not rank blends by caffeine.
- Gold vs Master: Gold is Rwanda, Kenya, and Assam, bright and golden; Master Blend draws on ten tea gardens for a fuller cup and was formerly sold as Classic Blend.
- Decaf: less than 0.2% caffeine, per Barry's.

How much caffeine is in Barry's Tea?
Barry's Tea does not print or publish a milligram figure for Gold Blend, Master Blend, Original, or Irish Breakfast; we checked the Barry's site and its US shop pages for each blend. What we can say with sources:
- USDA FoodData Central lists brewed black tea at 20 mg per 100 g, about 47 mg per 8 oz cup.
- Brands that do publish figures land in the same zone: Tetley says 30 to 50 mg per cup, and Twinings US says 40 to 76 mg per serving for unflavoured black tea.
- Barry's blends are standard black tea bags from Assam, Kenya, and Rwanda, so there is no reason to expect them to sit outside that range.
So a reasonable expectation for a mug of Barry's is roughly 40 to 60 mg, with a short steep at the low end and a long one at the top. That is about half a cup of drip coffee (USDA: about 95 mg per 8 oz). Treat it as an estimate from the category range, not a Barry's figure.
Barry's blends compared
| Blend | What Barry's says | Caffeine |
|---|---|---|
| Master Blend (formerly Classic Blend) | Tea from ten of the finest tea gardens; "a richer, full bodied flavour"; Rainforest Alliance Certified | Full caffeine; no published mg |
| Gold Blend | Rwanda, Kenya, and the Assam Valley; "rich golden colour"; Ireland's favourite tea | Full caffeine; no published mg |
| Irish Breakfast (US box) | Assam, Rwanda, and Kenya; "a brisk refreshing taste and a bright golden colour" | Full caffeine; no published mg |
| Original Blend | One of Barry's four signature blends | Full caffeine; no published mg |
| Decaf | Decaffeinated blend | Less than 0.2% caffeine |
A note on names: Barry's now sells Master Blend under a name that replaced Classic Blend; its own shop redirects the Classic Blend page to Master Blend. Amazon still carries listings under both names.
Which Barry's tea is strongest?
Master Blend. It is the blend Barry's positions for "true tea connoisseurs", describing a "richer, full bodied flavour" from tea sourced across ten gardens. Gold Blend, which Barry's calls Ireland's favourite, has a bright, golden cup, and Irish Breakfast is described as brisk and refreshing. Barry's does not publish caffeine by blend, so "strongest" means fullest-bodied in the cup, not a proven caffeine difference. If you want more caffeine from any Barry's bag, steep it longer: 5 minutes rather than 3, which is the top of Barry's own 3 to 5 minute brewing range.
Barry's Gold vs Master Blend
| Gold Blend | Master Blend | |
|---|---|---|
| Tea sources | Rwanda, Kenya, Assam Valley | Ten tea gardens (Amazon listing names Assam, Kenya, Rwanda) |
| Barry's description | Rich golden colour; Ireland's favourite | Richer, full bodied; for connoisseurs |
| Amazon, single 80 box | $13.99 at time of writing | $11.15 at time of writing |
| Pick it if | You want Barry's signature bright, golden cup | You want a heavier, fuller brew with milk |
Both take milk and both are fully caffeinated. Gold is the safer first box; Master Blend is the upgrade for people who find Gold too light. For the older Gold vs Original question, see Barry's Gold vs Original, and for the brand as a whole, our Barry's Tea review.
