Gold Blend is the deeper of the two teas in every way that matters. The leaf mix leans on Assam and East African (mostly Kenyan and Rwandan) black teas, which give it a thick, malty body and a coppery colour that holds up under milk. At a four-minute steep it is rich without being tannic; push it to five and it gets properly strong without turning bitter, which is the hallmark of a blend built for hard water and milk.

Flavor: Gold is deeper, Original is brighter
Side by side at a four-minute steep, Gold pours a darker copper and smells of malt and a little dried fruit; Original pours amber and smells brisker and cleaner, closer to a classic Ceylon-and-Assam breakfast tea. In the mouth Gold is rounder and coats more; Original finishes faster and drier. Neither is bitter at four minutes.
