Short version: buy Luzianne if iced tea is the whole job. It is blended specifically to stay clear and smooth when chilled, it has a rounder, less astringent flavour that carries sugar beautifully, and the family-size bags are cheap. Buy Lipton if you want a brisker, more tea-forward glass, if you also drink hot tea from the same box, or if Lipton is simply what is on the shelf: it is a perfectly good iced tea and a little cheaper per bag.
This is the classic American iced-tea argument, and the two brands genuinely brew different glasses. Luzianne exists for one purpose and it shows. Hot-steeped and diluted, it gives an amber tea with a soft, almost sweet edge and almost no astringency, which is exactly the base a Southern sweet tea wants: the sugar rounds it rather than fighting tannin. Cold-brewed overnight it is the clearest glass in this comparison. Unsweetened, some tasters found it a little mellow, which is the flip side of the same smoothness.

Sweet tea: Luzianne was built for it
Southern sweet tea is a tea-and-sugar syrup stretched with water and ice, and the tea underneath has to be smooth or the glass turns harsh. Luzianne's blend is noticeably less tannic than Lipton's, so a cup of sugar per gallon rounds it into something soft and drinkable rather than sharp. Lipton sweet tea is good, especially with lemon, but it carries a little astringency that Luzianne does not. If sweet tea is what you make, the answer is Luzianne.
Unsweet and cold brew: closer than you would think
Unsweetened, Lipton's brisker character becomes an advantage: the glass tastes more like tea. Luzianne unsweet is pleasant and mellow, and some tasters preferred it for that, but it can read plain. Cold-brewed overnight in the fridge (one family-size bag per quart, 8 to 12 hours), both are excellent; Luzianne comes out clearer, Lipton a shade brisker. Neither clouds the way hot-steeped-then-refrigerated tea can.
